2020 April // Mülheimer Freiheit
For a couple of days people have been pinning rainbow pictures to their windows to convey a message of solidarity.
The rainbows aim to make people smile while they’re walking by, and also offer a message of hope.
This is my spontaneous contribution - on display for the coming evenings at Mülheimer Freiheit 126.
2019 März // Mülheimer Nacht / Köln
Interactive 3D projection box by Olaf Hirschberg and Felix J. Hild as part of the Mülheimer Nacht 2019.

19.10 - 17.11.2013 // Galerie.1 / Königswinter
The title “I / C / U” phonetically reads as “I see you” – a curated compilation of six acclaimed photographers’ personal perspectives on the human image. Each artist reinterprets the concept of portrait photography in distinct ways, ranging from timeless black-and-white compositions to vibrant and experimental visuals.
→ A group show reflecting the diversity of media-based portraiture.
17.08 - 21.09.2013 // Ludendorff-Brücke / Erpel
Aktion 2T/2013 is an initiative by the association antiform e.V. in collaboration with ad Erpelle, the art and culture society of Erpel, which served as the official organizer. The goal was to bring new life to a historically significant site — the Rhine-facing ruins of the former Ludendorff Bridge, internationally known as the “Bridge at Remagen.” The project aimed to activate this unique space not only regionally, but as a cultural statement with broader reach.
In 2013, the theme of Aktion 2T was “Gewaltige Bilder”.
The curatorial concept sought to explore the power and fascination of images — how they surround us daily in countless forms and varying intensity, constantly delivering messages and evoking emotions. Through installations and artistic interventions, the project examined the mechanisms of visual impact within a contemporary media landscape.
02.02 - 10.08.2013 // LOUD! / Düsseldorf
The LOUD! Concept Store in Düsseldorf merges art and design into a unified experience. Alongside its distinctive mix of fashion, design, interior, and lifestyle innovation, the store hosted a six-month media art installation featuring the photographic series “Und wenn sie nicht…” by Achim Hehn & Felix J. Hild.
The exhibition bridged retail and artistic expression, turning the store into an immersive brand experience and a platform for photographic media art in a contemporary context.
07.07.2012 - ∞ // Bootshaus / Köln
The Bootshaus in Cologne is one of Germany’s most popular clubs. International artists such as David Guetta, Skrillex, Deadmau5, Paul Kalkbrenner, Moby, Sven Väth, Steve Aoki, and Fedde Le Grand have performed at this iconic harbor venue.
Since the major renovation in July 2012, a new design dominates the former shipyard halls. At its center stands a large-scale 3D projection mapping sculpture stretching across the DJ booth.
The sculpture is animated by constantly shifting visual worlds that support the music and contribute to a synesthetic spatial media experience.
Minimalist graphics, escapist imagery, and technical structures wrap around the three-dimensional form — all rendered in real time.
Powered by an Avolites AI server and HD projections, the installation uses some of the most advanced technologies in contemporary projection mapping art.
14.04 - 13.10.2012 // Betahaus / Köln
Opening as part of the 17th Ehrenfeld Hopping festival.
They always burned the candle at both ends. Nothing was allowed to stand in their way. But what price do the heroes and icons of our youth pay for their unrestrained existence?
A photographic media art project by Achim Hehn & Felix J. Hild, exploring cultural memory, identity, and the myth of invincibility through visual storytelling.
01.11 - 04.11.2012 // Staatenhaus / Köln

18.10.2009 // Loonyland / Köln
“ReAktivRaum” describes the concept of a video installation designed to dissolve the boundaries between different domains of perception. As part of a club conceived as a living “organism,” the installation acts as a connective tissue between hearing, seeing, spatial awareness, and dance — understood as expressions of bodily sensation and imagination. Through the interplay of all these elements, a coherent spatial system emerges.
The visual worlds projected onto various surfaces are controlled live by a visual jockey, who responds to the dynamics, textures, and patterns of the music. Simultaneously, guests influence both the video projections and lighting through a motion-sensitive interface as they dance.
On the dancefloor, they are surrounded by a continuous flow of direct and indirect light. The impressions formed by the interaction with the moving images and the evolving lightscape merge with the sound into a synaesthetic spatial media experience.
All design efforts deliberately move away from conventional, rectangular projection screens with passive, linear content — toward an interactive projection sculpture that lends light and moving images an immediacy and omnipresence otherwise achieved only by music in a club setting.
The installation consists of flame-retardant PA/Lycra fabric capable of stretching to nearly 100% of its original size. This textile was tensioned over a steel-wire framework and illuminated from within using LED spotlights. Thanks to its translucency and the absence of visible support structures, the installation appears lightweight and seems to float effortlessly in space despite its scale.
The interactive projection system is based on the “Living Surface” technology developed by the Cologne-based agency Vertigo Systems — a spin-off from the Fraunhofer Society for the Advancement of Applied Research.
