Island Hopper // A Real-Time Installation Blending Art, Sport, and Immersive Play

A dynamic spatial media experience where collaboration, precision, and visual storytelling meet in real time.

A Playful Fusion of Art and Space
Island Hoppers is a collaborative media installation designed for the world’s first permanently installed ASB GlassFloor at BMW Park in Munich. This interactive installation transforms the arena’s LED surface into a lively digital ocean, where color, light, and motion flow together in real time. As an immersive media artist, the project redefines fan interaction and merges sport with experiential media design, offering an installation that is both visual spectacle and participatory play.

Advanced Technology in Motion
Built in Unity, Island Hoppers leverages a powerful real-time Unity installation framework to simulate water dynamics and physics-based interaction on the LED floor. The system integrates UWB tracking via KINEXON to precisely localize player movement and synchronize it with the digital environment. This spatial media experience includes real-time water simulation, reactive tiles, and procedural puzzle generation.

Interactive Gameplay for Collective Experience
In each round, four players team up to cross an ocean of tiles and reach a central island—choosing matching symbols to move forward. If they misstep, the tile collapses and they start again. The game evolves with increasing difficulty, sharpening observation, collaboration, and movement. Every session is unique thanks to randomized levels, making this a replayable interactive experience, tailored for live audiences and designed for an immersive brand experience.
